The history of the Koh Samui strain starts in Thailand. More specifically, on an island off the Thai coast called Koh Samui.
This island is filled with beautiful palm beaches, mountainous rainforests, and impressive coconut groves. Not only that, but the island has a long history of magic mushroom use.
Locals and tourists alike have harvested and consumed magic mushrooms on the island for as long as anyone can remember.
Then, a famous mycologist known as John W. Allen, aka Mushroom John, set foot on the island. In the early 1990s, John Allen documented psilocybin-containing mushrooms on the island.
He wrote scientific article about it and published it in 1992. He found that locals used the magic mushrooms for recreation and in food such as omelets and soups.
He collected samples of various species of magic mushrooms from the island and sent them home. One of these samples would become the Koh Samui strain we know and love today.
He sent spore samples of Koh Samui to other mycologists to culture and grow. From there, Koh Samui started making its way into the hands of people across the world.
Now, Koh Samui is an all-time classic, and it’s thanks to John W. Allen.
